Global Adventures Summer Camps at Rolling Hills Zoo

Must pre-register 1 week prior to camp date.
Unregistered drop-ins are not allowed - must be registered to attend.

Ages 4 - 12
Note: Child(ren) must be 4 years of age on the date of the camp.
Three-year-olds may not enroll.

Choose from one of the following days/times for each weekly camp.

Overall Description for Half-Day Camps 1-6:
Travel around the world and learn about diverse habitats and how wildlife thrive there. Learn about how our choices at home impact animals all around the world and how you can become a Wildlife Warrior.

Each Camp will include:
• Playtime with an interactive game
• A Zoo walk-about
• A fun craft project
• A tasty snack
• An animal encounter

4 - 7 Year Olds
Choose from the following days/times for each weekly camp:
• Monday: 8:30 - 11:30 am
• Monday: 1:00 - 4:00 pm
• Thursday: 8:30 - 11:30 am

8 - 12 Year Olds
Choose from the following times for each weekly camp:
• Tuesday: 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
• Tuesday: 1:00 - 4:30 pm

Camp Weeks & Subjects

Camp 1 (C1) - Week of June 5 Africa • The Wilds of Africa
Join the Pride and learn about lions, giraffes, rhinos and African dogs. Pounce on this fast!
Camp 2 (C2) - Week of June 12 North America • Where did the buffalo go?
Why are our prairies so empty?  Let’s discover the history and the beauty of the North American Grasslands.
Camp 3 (C3) - Week of June 19 Yukon/Polar • Man, itís cold up here!
What animals can live here? How do they eat? Where do they sleep? How cold does it really get? Letís answer these chilling questions together.
Camp 4 (C4) - Week of June 26 Rainforest • We are all in this together!
Letís explore the many mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and invertebrates that live in the Rainforest near the Zambezi River in Zambia, the 4th largest river in Africa.
Camp 5 (C5) - Week of July 3 Far/Middle East • Fauna of the Far & Middle East
Travel from east to west and from cold to hot, to discover the wonderful animals that live in this large and beautiful region. (No camp on July 4)
Camp 6 (C6) - Week of July 10 Europe
From top to bottom and coast to border, learn about different animals that travel the many terrains of Europe.

Note: The same lesson will be taught for each ½ day camp theme per week. 
For example: 4-7 year olds attending Camp 1 (C1) on Monday (8:30-11:30) will be taught the same lesson as 4-7 year olds attending Camp 1 (C1) on Monday (1:00-4:00) and Thursday (8:30-11:30).

Overall Description: Join us for a great adventure as a Zoologist at Rolling Hills Zoo! Each week explore a different terrain and discover the animals that live there and how they adapt to their environments.

As a Junior Zookeeper at Rolling Hills Zoo, kids will learn about the important aspects of being a zoo keeper. Their Junior Zookeepersí sessions include:

  • As a reptile keeper they will learn how different reptilesí diet is prepared, how to shoot temperatures of the reptiles, and how to clean their environments.
  • As a Kids Country keeper they will experience animal care of heritage farm animals, including feeding, cleaning and grooming.
  • Creating enrichment for the animals is a fun and rewarding part of a zoo keeperís job. During this enrichment session kids will learn about the different types of enrichment offered to different animals, the important role of enrichment for animals at the zoo, and an opportunity to create their own enrichment for the zoo animals.
  • In the veterinary hospital at the Zoo, kids will learn about animal care and examinations, check-ups, vaccinations and x-rays. They will also get to perform an exploratory surgery on a banana.
  • In the fifth session, Junior Zookeepers will work on a big enrichment project for a species of their choosing.
  • The last session will wrap up their summer season as a Junior Zookeeper at Rolling Hills Zoo.
